Visual Processing Disorders

Vision Problems/Deficiencies Related to Learning:

While visual acuity is important, when looking at visual processing disorders, the focus is on:
  •   *Visual teaming
  •   *Visual tracking
  •   *Visual-spatial awareness
  •   *Visual focusing

Clues to identifying a visual processing disorder:

  • Double vision or blurred vision, particularly during or after reading
  • Omitting lines and/or words while reading
  • The need to track with a finger or separate page while reading
  • Miscopying and/or difficult copying from the board
  • Reoccurring headaches
  • Car sickness
  • Reversals - Words and/or letters
  • Easily distracted during reading
  • Poor reading rate, comprehension and/or handwriting
  • Rereading for comprehension
