Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a clinical diagnosis.  Although rating scales are helpful in diagnosing ADHD, there is no evidence-based, reliable test. The areas of academic difficulty most frequently seen in students with ADHD are math, comprehension, and written expression.

Three symptoms:
1. Inattentive
2. Hyperactive / Impulsive
3. Combined (all three symptoms)


Interventions:
*Behavioral therapy for child and family
*Medication


How parents can help:
* Maintain daily schedule
* Set small, realistic goals
* Reward positive activities
* Use checklists to help with focus

How the school can help: Accommodations
*Extra time on tests and/or assignments
*Separate room to take tests to avoid distractions
*Seating close to the teacher
*Provide a note-taker for organization of notes, assignments, and projects
